Here are my top four.

#1 Make it stand out!

Quite possibly the easiest and fastest way to get more chats is to make it pop! Make sure the look and feel of your chat box stands out against the backdrop of your website. This doesn’t mean it needs to be hot pink per se, but it should definitely have a welcoming image and bright colors. We make it easy to make your chat box match your brand. Check out our guide to customization.

#2 No fields, please!

I don’t know about you, but I fill out too many forms not knowing what I’m going to get. It makes me think twice before giving up my email address or worse… phone number! Each time you add form fields to your chat box you’re limiting the potential number of chat messages you receive. Keep it simple. Make it easy for your website visitors to go from passive to engaged. #3 Get found on directories.

Different types of people find new products and services in different ways. Adding your company to several nice online directories is a quick and easy way to increase website traffic. There are so many directories out there, it’s best to do some research to find the ones that your prospective customers would use to find a business like you. Here are just some suggestions: Linkedin, Facebook, and Google My Business. Need some more? HubSpot shared the ultimate list of local business directories.

#4 Participate in digital communities.

In addition to listing your business on popular sites, I recommend finding a few online communities and participating in the discussion. It gives you an opportunity to learn new things, share your expertise and make new connections. If you blog, make sure to share your articles to these communities and strike up meaningful conversations. These communities can draw prospective clients to your website who will continue the conversation with you over chat. Not sure where to find the right community for you? Both Moz and LifeHack have articles that outline steps to find a good group.
